severe weather forecast Malaga provinceAccording to multiple sources, including Windy.com, forecasts are unanimous: the south of Spain is set to face  severe weather conditions starting tomorrow, Wednesday, 13th November and persisting for at least three days. Now is the time to prepare.

Today’s tranquil weather offers a last chance to prepare

Today brings bright sun and a gentle breeze – ideal conditions to get ready for the approaching storm. Use this calm to secure your property and belongings.

Coastal and river areas most at risk

  • Coastal Precautions: Rising sea levels are pushing water unusually high on beaches, likely driven by strong easterly winds. If you’re near the coast, close any external shutters tightly, as sand and debris may be carried toward windows by gusty winds.
  • Protect Metal Surfaces: Saltwater can cause rapid damage to metal structures. Protect metal railings and fixtures by wrapping them with cling film or a similar barrier to reduce exposure to salt spray.
  • Flood-Prone River Areas: If you live near a river prone to flooding, move belongings to higher floors. Ensure vehicles are parked on elevated ground and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

General preparations for all areas

  • Clear Gutters and Drains: To prevent water from pooling or overflowing, clean out gutters and ensure drains are clear. Have sandbags or barriers ready in case you need to block water from entering.
  • Secure Loose Items Outdoors: Remove or secure any terrace furniture, garden items, and other loose objects that could be carried away by strong winds.
  • Prepare for Pets’ Anxiety: If your pets become anxious during storms, have tranquillisers or other calming aids on hand.
  • Stock Up on Essentials: Avoid venturing out during the storm by getting essential groceries and supplies now.
  • Road Safety: If you must drive, be cautious of flying debris, overturned bins, and other potential hazards on the road.

After the storm, sunshine will return

While we hope these forecasts err on the side of caution, it’s better to be prepared. Stay safe and stay informed.
